Forums are Gay

As with most online mediums for communication forums are wicked gay. I don't mean homosexual gay, unless you think that a forum shares the sexual orientation of it's moderators, I mean really, really stupid.

Small list of what happens in forums, and why they're gay:
Someone posts a serious thread ----> Some asshole makes it racist, sexist, or otherwise offensive
Someone rants about things they don't like (movie, music, food, etc.) ----> Some asshole trolls the thread because they have a different opinion from the OP
Someone seeks the assistance from the forums with questions about their camera, computer, etc. -----> Some asshole belittles the OP for having to ask such a stupid question

If I'm not mistaken, you have admin, you can moderate. Beyond that, basically you just don't want the form to appeal to assholes, yeah, impossible task.

I find that the nature of moderators scales fairly linearly with the size of the forum. I was always much nicer on the forum I was modding with 2k users than the one that had 60k+.

What about when there's less than 2 dozen? I think the scale might look something like this
